Statement of Faith

As a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, River Cross Church holds to the biblical doctrine of the Baptist Faith and Message. Below is an editable summary of the church's statement of faith.

It all begins with God. There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence, or being.

About God: God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ: Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life, offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for sin by dying on a cross, rose from the dead after three days, ascended to heaven's glory, and will return again.

About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He makes people aware of their need for Jesus Christ, lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation, and gives power, understanding, and guidance for daily life.

About humanity: Man is made in the spiritual image of God and is the supreme object of God's creation. Although humanity has tremendous potential for good, every person is marred by sin, which separates people from God.

About the Bible: The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit and is the supreme source of truth for Christian belief and living.

About salvation: Salvation is a gift from God. People can never make up for sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can a person be saved from sin's penalty.

About eternity: People were created to exist forever. They will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally in union with God through forgiveness and salvation.

About eternal security: Because God gives eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by human effort.

About end times: God, in His own time and way, will bring the world to its appropriate end. Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory; the dead will be raised; and Christ will judge all people in righteousness.

About baptism: Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. It is a public declaration that a person has accepted Jesus Christ as Savior. Baptism does not save, but it is a biblical command and an act of obedience.

About communion: Communion, or the Lord's Supper, is given to believers by Jesus Christ to remember His sacrifice and symbolize the new covenant. The elements are symbols of Christ's broken body and shed blood.
